On September 13, 2024, COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. (COSCO SHIPPING Energy) and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC) held a signing ceremony for new LNG carriers in Dalian. Lin Nan (Managing Director of COSCO SHIPPING LNG Investment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (“CSLNG”)), He Xu (Deputy General Manager of DSIC), and Rong Yao (General Manager of the Third Department of Ship and Marine Business of China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC)) signed the shipbuilding contract for two 175,000-cubic-meter regular LNG carriers on behalf of the shipowner and the shipyard, respectively. Yang Zhizhong (Chairman of DSIC), Han Dongwang (General Manager of DSIC), and relevant personnel from COSCO SHIPPING Energy and DSIC attended and witnessed the signing ceremony.
The newbuilding for this project will be fully constructed and independently supervised by CSLNG, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Energy. Upon completion, the LNG carriers will be handed over to the management of the wholly-owned COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. (COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong)). Order-based training for LNG crew members will be implemented to ensure independent management and control over the entire LNG business function chain. This approach aims to steadily enhance the core competitiveness of the company’s LNG carrier operations and management, thereby providing customers with more flexible and convenient transportation services while safeguarding the stability of the energy industry and supply chains. Meanwhile, this project marks the second collaboration between COSCO SHIPPING Energy and DSIC in the field of LNG equipment manufacturing. The two sides will strengthen scientific and technological innovation and green development, jointly enhancing the independent and controllable capabilities of LNG carrier equipment. This collaboration aims to harness LNG power to promote the development of new quality productive forces in the evolving global energy landscape.
